I Bought Wolfy

Filed under Video Games by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on November 1st, 2009

I eventually broke down and bought Wolfenstein after the price went down. It’s ok. I haven’t finished it yet, but I did make a post in the forums about what I saw so far. I’m curious if someone else agrees with my comments. Here’s some points I brought up.

  • hit boxes. why are the hit boxes on the enemies so poor? I can shoot someone’s arm as it hangs around the corner and it acts like I never shot it.
  • am I using veil or mirk? it’s very hard to tell what special power you’re using or if you’re using more than one power at the same time
  • if I have to hear “that’s the spy!” one more time I think I’ll go nuts. the game needs more voiceovers or that one is just annoying
  • intelligence is useless. I never read it. They didn’t make it necessary to the game and therefor it doesn’t factor in
  • the BJ reports at the ends of levels are fairly annoying. why do I need to listen to a representation of myself tell me about what I just did. I know what I did!
  • running in the game makes me feel like tossing my cookies
  • the game feels a bit cheesy and it’s not immersive so far
  • the rpg like multiple objective setup doesn’t seem to be appealing to me
  • those enemies that are invisible, show themselves and kill you in two swipes are silly. It’s very difficult to see them for one, but they are far too powerful compared to the other enemies I’ve encountered
  • I originally thought buying weapon upgrades would suck, but I kinda like it actually.

Is Wolfenstein tanking?

Filed under Video Games by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on August 30th, 2009

I noticed that the price of Wolfenstein went from the original list price of $49.99 down to $35.49 and on top of that, Amazon is shipping it for FREE.

Wolfenstein @ Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Wolfenstein-Pc/dp/B001CLYL1K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251690168&sr=8-1

That can’t be good news for the game. I picked it up so I guess I’ll find out soon if I wasted $35.49.

Wolf Release, Team Axed, Patch Already Out

Filed under Video Games by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on August 18th, 2009

Well, I haven’t gotten the game yet and I haven’t read the reviews, but I’m unsure I get a warm fuzzy feeling about it. I’ll pick it up of course, but I’m a bit engrosed in Prototype ATM so I don’t want to ruin my interest in that. Check out the related news.

Have you gotten the game? Comment, tweet or reply in the forums.

Site Progress

Filed under TRAM Design by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on August 8th, 2009

I stayed up late last night and worked on the site a bit. Then I woke up late morning and started working on it a bit more. I made some progress, but that progress seems slow. Things take time.

The Community Talk section of the front page is coming along. I’ve integrated post counts, views and replies which are kinda kewl, but I still have to figure out a way to handle quote blocks better. Instead of bothering with images, I took the lazy way out for now and simply replaced all images with [img]. I’ve also capped the posts so it only shows an excerpt. I had to use an iFrame to integrate the forum which I’m not a fan of, but it works. I always hate seeing that white box on initial page load.

I finally got access to the old Planetwolfenstein website so I downloaded everything from there and I’ve started to move things over to tramdesign.net. I’m happy that I didn’t lose that stuff. I’m finding a bunch of things I didn’t even know I had such as development screenshots and such. I think I may post some of them in the forums.

Meanwhile, I’ve setup the Projects page and also the Community page so those are checked off the list. The Contact page works, but it’s got some ways to go.

Eh, I guess I won’t bother listing what I have left to do since it appears I have more to do than I’ve done so far, but I have to admit I feel good getting this site up and running again even if there’s no traffic anymore.

Wolfenstein MP Leak

Filed under Video Games by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on August 8th, 2009

id Software on Wolfenstein MP Leak says:

It was brought to our attention on Friday, 7/31 that a build of the Wolfenstein Multiplayer was leaked and is now being distributed illegally through breach of NDA and mirrors posted on the internet. I must warn anyone involved that Activision’s legal department is taking this matter very seriously.

The game also hasn’t gone gold yet with a release date of 8/18 which means it isn’t making that date most likely. I also caught a comment on a website from somewho who seemed to have some knowledge of the leak and…

…it [Wolfenstein 2] seems like a very bad, crudely programmed, unpolished product that looks and plays like an Activision Value caliber game rather than a legendary franchise from id Software.

Unfortunately with they way most games are designed lately, I have little reason to doubt it’s true. Let’s hope this person is wrong and Raven/Activision get their shit together and release a good game.

The Aussie Gamespot posted a Q&A about the Wolftenstein Multiplayer you can find here. What goodies can be in store? Are you excited?!?

It seems like forever since I played RTCW and hung with the old bunch. Geez remember testing beta levels and goofing off in the forums all day??

Well, anyhow, you can find the Q&A here. I haven’t even read it yet so you’re going to beat me to it. Codey forwarded it over to me and I wanted to post it real quick hehe

TRAM Design @ Planetwolfenstein

Filed under TRAM Design by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on July 25th, 2009

I just came across news that IGN is doing a migration (IGN merged with Gamespy who runs all the planet sites) and they are going to wipe all Planet fan sites on August 31, 2009 or sometime thereafter.

I also read they were going to start to charge for hosting. This of course is sending searching for a way to access the site because to be honest it’s been so long I can’t even remember how. This site and the forums luckily are on my own hosting, but there’s still so much I have to move over.

IMO, the Planet site community has gone downhill when it comes to hosting. Gamespy was originally a grass roots game design fan based setup that seemed to care about games and building a community. Then they started getting corporate and merged with IGN which from what I’ve seen is a total mess and not at all advantageous for fansites. I get that they want to make money. I do. I guess they way they’ve changed over the years has left a bad taste in my mouth. They could barely centralize information for fansites or get their add code right when it was just Gamespy. Add IGN to the mix and kaboom.

Anyhow, I hope I can get all of the files from the old site because I’ve got quite a lot there that I’d rather not lose. I’ve contacted tech support at Gamespy. We’ll see.

Forums Updated to phpBB3.0.5

Filed under TRAM Design by Paul "Tunnleram" Ille on July 12th, 2009

So it’s about time I updated the forums. They’ve been on version 2 forever. Well, I bit the bullet now that I’m trying to get the site revamped a bit. The link to the forums stays the same (http://www.tramdesign.net/forums), but you’ll notice that the default look is still in place. It’ll take me some time to put that in line with the main part of the site, but I will.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any issues with the forums, not that they get used much anymore. I can’t blame anyone for not showing up. At the same time, keep in mind, there are all nice new shiney goodies for you to enjoy now :)
